Why Crafts Still Matter in a Tech-Heavy World
September 10, 2025
In today’s digital age, it’s easy to assume that the future belongs to screens and apps. But at Sing In Chinese Preschool, we believe crayons, glue sticks, and colored paper are just as powerful. Crafts continue to be one of the most important tools we use to support whole-child development—and they’re more relevant than ever.
Crafts are sensory-rich experiences that stimulate the brain in ways screens can’t. When children cut, glue, paint, and create, they’re engaging multiple senses at once. This hands-on learning fuels imagination, strengthens coordination, and builds essential problem-solving skills.
Crafting also teaches patience and planning. Children learn to follow steps, handle materials carefully, and make decisions when things don’t go as expected. These are skills they’ll use not only in school, but in life. And unlike tapping on a tablet, crafts offer real, tangible outcomes. Children get to hold what they’ve made and feel proud of their work.
We know crafts take time and effort—from both teachers and students. They’re messy. They require prep. But they’re also incredibly rewarding. That’s why we include them in our curriculum every week, even when it's easier not to.
